Basketball, Setbacks, and Showing Up

Basketball has always been an important part of my life. It’s where I learned discipline, consistency, and how to be part of a team.

Two weeks ago, I injured my thumb when the ball hit it the wrong way. Since then, I’ve been wearing a splint. I went back to practice yesterday, but I still couldn’t play. Today is one of the most important games of the season, and I won’t be on the court.

Situations like this make you realize that not everything is in your control. You can prepare, train, and stay consistent, but unexpected setbacks can still happen.

What matters is how you respond.

Even though I can’t play, I will still be there. Supporting my teammates, staying involved, and showing up for the team matters just as much. Basketball is not only about being on the court, but about being part of something larger than yourself.

This experience reminded me that being ready is not only physical. It’s also about mindset—being prepared to adapt, stay committed, and continue forward even when things don’t go as planned.
