Free Tools To Compare US Universities

When I first started exploring U.S. universities, I realized how confusing the process can be. There are hundreds of schools, all with different acceptance rates, SAT expectations, and student experiences. Over time, I found some great free websites that make it easier to compare them and understand what each one offers.

One of the most popular tools is Niche. It’s designed mainly for American students, so some information might not fully reflect the experience of international applicants. Still, it’s very useful for checking overall rankings, campus life, and student reviews. The site also lists general acceptance rates, though these usually refer to all applicants, not just international ones.

If you want to find the specific international acceptance rates, you need to look at each university’s Common Data Set (CDS). Most schools publish this document on their institutional research page. It provides official numbers about how many international students applied, were admitted, and enrolled. You can also find this kind of information on U.S. News or College Board’s BigFuture, both of which are reliable for admissions data, tuition, and financial aid details.

Finally, if you want to understand what kind of SAT or ACT scores each university expects, PrepScholar is one of the best free resources. It lists the middle 50% score ranges for admitted students and gives a realistic idea of what you need to aim for. By combining these tools, you can build a clear, data-based picture of each university before applying and save a lot of time in the process.
